Why do we love cemeteries?

Later this month, I’ll be joining Beth  Winegarner, author of San Francisco’s Forgotten Cemeteries: A Buried History, to talk about cemeteries. We’ll discuss why San Francisco’s cemeteries were evicted from the city, what got us interested in cemeteries, and what we’ve seen — and would still like to visit — as well as taking questions from the audience.

Beth and I will both have books to sell, so if you’d like to see Death’s Garden Revisited or snag a copy of 199 Cemeteries to See Before You Die in its original black & gold edition, this is your chance.

Join us at the glorious San Francisco Columbarium! The columbarium is the last standing remnant of the cemeteries of San Francisco that is still being used for its intended purpose. It’s full of exquisite stained glass, amazing mosaics, and wonderfully idiosyncratic niches dedicated to San Francisco’s permanent citizens.

Tickets are free, but you must RSVP in advance at Eventbrite.
