The Sunshine Award!

First off, I want to thank The Penniless Traveler for the nomination for the Sunshine Award. This is my first blog award! I’m touched that someone enjoys Cemetery Travel that much, especially someone whose blog is so much fun.  I’m also amused that my dark little subject rates a Sunshine Award.

Here are the rules:

Include the award logo in a blog post. (I will also add it to the right-hand column.)

Answer the 10 questions about yourself.

Nominate 10-12 other fabulous bloggers. Link your nominees to this post and comment on their blogs, letting them know about the award.

Share the love and link the person that nominated you.

10 Questions

1. What would you most like to change about yourself?

I wish I were more organized. Hoarding runs in my family. Personally, I have trouble letting go of paper: notes, lists, drafts, clippings, letters. I’m not good about making time to file, so papers just pile up. I’d like to get on top of things.

2. What is your theme song?

The Sonnerie de Ste Genevieve du Mont-de-Paris, by M. Marais.  Here’s a video:

3. What are you passionate about?

Life. My life requires a fair amount of quiet time in which to be creative, so it’s natural that I gravitated toward graveyards. They’re full of life – flowers, trees, squirrels, birds, butterflies – and full of stories. They’re like libraries with wildlife and landscaping.

4. What generation do you wish you had been a part of?

Funnily enough, I wouldn’t want to live at any other time. I’m so excited about the possibilities of the internet for research and connection that I would hate to give it up. Also, the ease of travel — the ability to jump on a plane or into a car and go anywhere — is marvelous. The world is so huge and full of fascinating things that going into the past seems like intentionally missing opportunities.

5. What was your favorite childhood toy?

My Viewmaster. I loved the sensation of being able to shut out the world and sink into a photograph.  One of these days, I hope to make a Viewmaster reel of cemetery photos.

6. What is your favorite household chore?

Laundry. It’s something I can finish.

7. Do you twitter?

Not as well as I should. I haven’t figured out how to filter what I read there, although I’ve discovered some amazing things and some fascinating people. For what it’s worth, you can follow me @MorbidLoren.

8. Any goals?

I’d like to be publishing books more steadily. It’s been three years since Morbid Curiosity Cures the Blues came out. I’ve got a bunch of other books ready to go. Hopefully they will find homes soon. I’d like to get busy writing the Bay Area Cemeteries book, but I don’t feel I can start anything new until the earlier books are placed with publishers.

9. What is your favorite time of year?

I love the sense of new beginnings in autumn. I always get a rush of ambition and energy in September. It feels like time to get back to work.

10. What is your favorite day?

October 22, my birthday. I love an excuse to celebrate my existence on earth. I’ve spent birthdays in Pere Lachaise, the Bone Chapel of Kutna Hora, and at Hollywood Forever’s Day of the Dead celebration, among others.

I don’t really have a favorite day of the week, since I just take each day as it comes. Sufficient to the day is the drama thereof.
